The Bard is a post-death state. Initially, the soul goes through a period of suffering and then allows it to reach enlightenment during the period after death and for a few more days, in order to avoid being reborn and entering Samsara again, since death is considered to last 49 days and then out of this comes a rebirth in the cycle of reincarnation.
